Montessori School Readiness Programme - For Children Starting Reception

The transition into Reception is not simply academic. It is developmental.

At this stage, children are refining concentration, coordination, language, early number understanding and independence. When these foundations are secure, the transition into school feels manageable. When they are fragile, school can feel overwhelming.

Reception Ready is a one-to-one Montessori school readiness programme grounded in developmental science and practical application.

This is not about pushing ahead.
It is about strengthening what must come first.

The Montessori 3–6 Foundation

In Montessori education, the 3–6 period is recognised as a sensitive stage for:

  • Language development

  • Order and routine

  • Refinement of movement

  • Independence

  • Concentration

  • Early mathematical reasoning

Sessions draw from this foundation.

Children work with hands-on materials designed with built-in control of error, allowing them to self-correct, build confidence and develop true understanding rather than dependence on adult approval.

What This Looks Like in Practice:

  • Practical life exercises that refine coordination and focus

  • Sandpaper letters and phonetic materials for sound-symbol connection

  • Movable alphabet work to build early writing confidence

  • Concrete number materials for quantity recognition and number sense

  • Fine motor strengthening to support pencil control

  • Sequencing and pattern work to support logical thinking

Where appropriate, your child’s interests are thoughtfully woven into the work. If a child loves animals, transport or storytelling, these themes can shape reading, language and problem-solving tasks while maintaining developmental structure.

The Scientist, The Guide, The Observer

Sessions are carefully planned, but never rigid.

I observe your child’s approach, refine materials accordingly and adjust the pathway as understanding deepens. The aim is not to rush. The aim is mastery with confidence.

Alignment with School Expectations

For children entering mainstream or independent Reception classes, sessions are aligned with early learning goals while remaining true to Montessori principles.

Children develop not only academic readiness, but the independence and self-regulation required to thrive in structured classroom environments.

What Parents Receive

Tuition is not limited to the hour your child spends in session.

Families receive structured insight into their child’s progress through a secure online platform designed to make development visible and measurable.

Weekly Photo Observations

After sessions, you receive photo-based observations showing your child working with specific materials or tasks. Each observation outlines:

  • The activity presented

  • The academic or developmental objective

  • How your child approached the work

  • Next steps in progression

Clear Developmental Status

Each activity is tracked within a structured Montessori curriculum pathway. You will be able to see whether your child has:

  • Been introduced to a concept

  • Is exploring the activity

  • Is practising and strengthening understanding

  • Is secure and working independently

This provides clarity around true mastery rather than surface familiarity.

Four-Week Overview

Families receive a concise 4-week overview summarising:

  • Areas introduced

  • Skills being strengthened

  • Emerging patterns

  • Recommended focus for the following cycle

This ensures you always understand where your child stands developmentally.

Three-Month Development Report (Continuation Plan)

For families enrolled in the 3-month development cycle, a detailed written report is provided at the end of each cycle outlining:

  • Progress made

  • Skills consolidated

  • Areas requiring further reinforcement

  • Recommendations for continued development

Access to Curriculum Pathway

Your child’s learning is mapped against a structured Montessori curriculum covering literacy, numeracy and personal development.

This ensures sessions are not reactive, but sequenced and intentional.

Ongoing Communication

Where appropriate, brief post-session discussions are available. Parents are also welcome to raise questions between sessions regarding reinforcement at home.
