Montessori Literacy and Numeracy Programme - Ages 4–6
The 4–6 stage is critical.
This is when children move from emerging skills into formal literacy and numeracy. If foundations are unclear, gaps widen quickly. If foundations are secure, confidence flourishes.
English & Maths Foundations is a specialist Montessori programme designed to consolidate core skills while strengthening independence and concentration.
Montessori 3–6 Academic Framework
In Montessori, literacy and numeracy are introduced concretely before abstraction.
Children:
Feel letters before writing them
Manipulate quantities before recording them
Experience patterns before solving written problems
This builds deep neural connections and reduces later anxiety around written work.
Literacy Development
Phonetic decoding and blending
Reading fluency and comprehension
Sentence construction and structure
Spelling through pattern recognition
Creative written expression grounded in structure
Numeracy Development
Concrete materials for place value and quantity
Addition, subtraction, division and multiplication, through hands-on work
Problem-solving through visual reasoning
Pattern recognition and logical sequencing
Control of error remains central. Children learn to self-correct through material design rather than adult correction, strengthening resilience and independence.
Individualised and Interest-Led Within Structure
Sessions follow a sequenced academic pathway. However, engagement is enhanced by integrating your child’s interests into reading passages, writing prompts and mathematical contexts where appropriate.
This maintains motivation without compromising rigour.
Alignment with National Curriculum
For children in mainstream or independent settings, sessions reinforce and extend National Curriculum objectives while addressing foundational gaps.
Progress is intentional, not reactive.
What Parents Receive
Tuition is not limited to the hour your child spends in session.
Families receive structured insight into their child’s progress through a secure online platform designed to make development visible and measurable.
Weekly Photo Observations
After sessions, you receive photo-based observations showing your child working with specific materials or tasks. Each observation outlines:
The activity presented
The academic or developmental objective
How your child approached the work
Next steps in progression
Clear Developmental Status
Each activity is tracked within a structured Montessori curriculum pathway. You will be able to see whether your child has:
Been introduced to a concept
Is exploring the activity
Is practising and strengthening understanding
Is secure and working independently
This provides clarity around true mastery rather than surface familiarity.
Four-Week Overview
Families receive a concise 4-week overview summarising:
Areas introduced
Skills being strengthened
Emerging patterns
Recommended focus for the following cycle
This ensures you always understand where your child stands developmentally.
Three-Month Development Report (Continuation Plan)
For families enrolled in the 3-month development cycle, a detailed written report is provided at the end of each cycle outlining:
Progress made
Skills consolidated
Areas requiring further reinforcement
Recommendations for continued development
Access to Curriculum Pathway
Your child’s learning is mapped against a structured Montessori curriculum covering literacy, numeracy and personal development.
This ensures sessions are not reactive, but sequenced and intentional.
Ongoing Communication
Where appropriate, brief post-session discussions are available. Parents are also welcome to raise questions between sessions regarding reinforcement at home.
