Montessori SEN & Independence, Motor & Sensorial Development 3-16

Montessori SEN & Independence, Motor & Sensorial Development Ages 3–16

Developmental support for children with additional needs, sensory differences or coordination challenges.

This programme is not simply academic. It is developmental.

Some children require more time, structure and hands-on refinement to strengthen coordination, concentration and independence. When these foundations are secure, learning becomes more manageable. When they are fragile, even simple tasks can feel overwhelming.

This is a one-to-one Montessori-based programme grounded in developmental science, careful observation and practical application.

This is not about rushing progress.
It is about strengthening what must come first.

The Montessori Developmental Foundation

In Montessori education, the early years and primary years emphasise:

  • Refinement of movement

  • Order and structure

  • Sensorial clarity

  • Independence

  • Concentration

  • Executive functioning

Sessions draw from this foundation.

Children work with hands-on materials designed with built-in control of error, allowing them to self-correct, build resilience and develop genuine competence rather than dependence on adult prompting.

Practical Life Development

Practical Life refers to structured, purposeful activities that build independence and coordination through real-world tasks.

This may include:

  • Care of self – dressing, fastening, tying laces

  • Care of the environment – organising, sequencing, maintaining order

  • Food preparation – controlled pouring, spreading, cutting with precision

  • Fine motor refinement – strengthening grip and hand stability

  • Hand–eye coordination exercises

  • Bilateral coordination tasks

  • Sequencing multi-step processes

These activities strengthen executive functioning, concentration and internal order.

Sensorial Development

Sensorial materials refine the child’s perception of the world.

Rather than overwhelming the senses, Montessori materials isolate specific qualities so the brain can process information clearly.

Work may include:

  • Visual discrimination of size, dimension and gradation

  • Colour refinement and tonal grading

  • Shape and geometric form discrimination

  • Auditory discrimination through graded sound materials

  • Tactile refinement through texture exploration

  • Weight differentiation and pressure awareness

This strengthens cognitive organisation, pattern recognition and perceptual clarity.

Fine & Gross Motor Strengthening

Many children benefit from explicit motor refinement.

Sessions may include:

  • Pencil control progression

  • Hand-strengthening sequences

  • Balance and posture awareness

  • Controlled movement exercises

  • Cross-lateral coordination tasks

Motor stability supports handwriting fluency, reading tracking and overall academic confidence.

The Scientist, The Guide, The Observer

Sessions are carefully planned but never rigid.

I observe your child’s approach, refine materials accordingly and adjust the pathway as understanding deepens.

The aim is not speed.
The aim is stability, clarity and confidence.

Alignment with School & Support Plans

Where appropriate, sessions may align with school recommendations, teacher feedback or existing support plans to ensure consistency between home and classroom environments.

This is structured educational support grounded in Montessori principles.

What Parents Receive

Support is not limited to the session hour.

Families receive structured, measurable insight into development.

Weekly Photo Observations

After sessions, you receive photo-based observations outlining:

  • The activity presented

  • The developmental objective

  • How your child approached the work

  • Next steps in progression

Clear Developmental Status

Each activity is tracked within a structured Montessori curriculum pathway and marked as:

  • Introduced

  • Exploring

  • Practising

  • Secure

This provides clarity around genuine mastery rather than surface familiarity.

Four-Week Overview

Every four weeks, families receive a structured overview summarising:

  • Skills strengthened

  • Areas consolidating

  • Emerging patterns

  • Recommended focus for the next phase

Twelve-Week Cumulative Development Report

At the end of each 12-week cycle, families receive a detailed written report outlining:

  • Progress made

  • Motor refinement development

  • Sensorial organisation

  • Independence growth

  • Recommendations for continued development

Access to Curriculum Pathway

Your child’s development is mapped against a structured Montessori pathway covering independence, motor refinement, sensorial processing and academic readiness where appropriate.

This ensures sessions are intentional rather than reactive.

Ongoing Communication

Parents may respond directly within the observation platform. Brief post-session discussions are available where appropriate.

Session Structure

Introductory Session -£60

A calm and purposeful introduction.

This session allows your child to meet me, explore materials and begin building trust. There are no formal tests. Observation is gentle and professional, focused on developmental readiness and learning approach.

If you choose to continue within 48 hours, the £60 fee is deducted from your first package.

Flexible Plan

4 Weekly Sessions - £340

8 Weekly Sessions - £640

12 Weekly Sessions -£900

Sessions are delivered weekly to ensure developmental continuity and measurable progress.

Location, Travel & Parking

Sessions available within 5 miles of SE19.

Travel beyond this radius incurs a travel fee confirmed at enquiry.

Parents are responsible for arranging suitable parking. Any required permits or parking charges must be covered in advance.
