Montessori Education: A Parent’s Guide
Welcome to our Montessori community!
My purpose as a Montessori parent consultant is to advise and support families as they embark on the Montessori educational journey. This site strives to be a resource for all things Montessori, whether you’re new to the subject or want to enhance your knowledge.
What is Montessori?
Montessori education is a child-centred teaching system based on scientific observations of children from infancy to adulthood. Dr. Maria Montessori, the Montessori method’s founder, felt that children are inherently curious and capable of starting learning in a supportive, well-prepared learning environment.
Montessori’s core principles
Respect for the Child: Montessori education values each child’s uniqueness and freedom.
The Absorbent Mind: Young children have a natural propensity to absorb information from their environment.
Sensitive periods: Children have times when they are more sensitive to various sorts of learning.
Prepared Environment: Montessori classrooms are structured to promote freedom and discovery, with things placed at the child’s height.
The Role of the Teacher (adult): The Montessori teacher’s role is to lead, observe, and support learning, enabling children to learn through their own discoveries.
Why Montessori?
Montessori is preferred by parents because it takes a comprehensive approach to education, encouraging not just academic abilities but also life qualities such as independence, empathy, and self-discipline. Montessori education prepares children for life by promoting curiosity and lifelong learning.
